     I had the opportunity of a life time last year. I was able to live outside all summer, in the beautiful little town of Ruby, Alaska. Ruby is a small fishing village made up mostly of Native Alaskans. It is a beautiful and special place that is for sure, one that I wont soon forget. Outdoor living changed my whole perspective on subisitance living and taking care of ones self. I lived like a king that summer, outdoor camping in Alaska is simply amazing.

     We pretty much ate fresh fish, wild berries and a wide variety of potato like roots. I thought that I would actually lose weight on that trip, but I gained. The weight was not fat, but muscle! I had been running around in the boonies all summer, eating like a king and enjoying life for what it is. The only problem that we ran into was our camping stove. It somehow got a large crack in it and was rendered useless for cooking. I talked with a few locals and they told me how to make an oven out of the clay that was everywhere. We made the oven just like the locals told us, and it worked out wonderfully. Our new camping stove.
